Wild Rangers is excited to be part of Big City Butterflies, an excited new project by the Butterfly Conservation Trust, which will inspire Londoners to discover butterfliews and moths, and connect them with nature in their local green spaces. It is a four year Heritage Lottery funded project with aims to give people opportunities to learn about butterflies and moths, how t oseek them out and to help them thrive in our neighbourhoods.
London is home to 25 of UK’s 59 species of butterfly. We celebrated the launch on June 5th with a Butterfly Sculpture Hide and Seek day. Participants joined a butterfly walk, setting off from the Ringway Centre to Grove Park Nature Reserve with two Ranger Missions – to find the butterfly sculptures and to seek out as many different real butterlies along the way!
Our amazing site Grove Park has been selected to form a focus for project activities and has included planting resistent elm trees to attract the white-letter hairstreak butterfly… Download the Big City Butterflies Family Guide and get spotting near to where you live.
