Fun Packed Day of Activities – Celebrating London Borough of Culture

Our London Borough of Culture activities culminate with a Fun Packed Day. Join us from 1pm and enjoy all the different activites throughout the day.

Booking is essential. Please book via booking form.

1:00pm-6:00pm – Exhibition of Graphic Novel & Ceramic Psammead Sculptures

  • Through out the year, participants have created beautiful stories about the change they want to make. Comic Story-telling workshops were led by authors of Protest Emily Haworth-Booth and Alice Haworth-Booth. Pop in and enjoy reading through all the fantastic creations.

1:00pm-2:00pm – Tree Planting Workshop

  • It’s National Tree Week! And in memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, we will be planting trees for the future to be part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, a living legacy and in honor of her Majesty’s long reign.
  • Join us at 1pm. We will read a short story, learn about different seeds from different trees! Then we will be planting some tree saplings and some tree seeds to create trees for the future.

2:00pm-3:00pm – Co-Design our National Museum

  • We are very excited to be joined by Emma Stirling-Middleton, curator of cartoon museum, to help us co-curate our national museum about protest, community action, democracy, freedom and rights!
  • In July this year, we celebrated 50 years of community action at the Ringway Centre. Join us to learn how the community has come together over the last 130+ years to save Grove Park’s community assets and green spaces, and its wider national influences. We hope to begin a display of all the amazing things we have achieved.
  • Emma will lead the workshop to create and curate the museum space.
  • It will also be another opportunity to see the new Railway Children Parkland Design.

3:00pm – 4.30 – Xmas Arts and Crafts

  • Join the art and craft making and drawing activities
  • Make a pressed flower Christmas card
  • Design a wildlife garden
  • Make a Christmas decoration

6:00pm-7.30pm – Evening of Astronomy – Planet & Star Gazing

  • Join us for an evening of astronomy this December 3rd, with a chance to see the moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune, and rising Mars through telescopes.
  • We are very excited to be joined by Greg Syme-Rumsby, a specialist planetarium presenter for the Royal Observatory Greenwich, to lead the session, along with Kathy Griffiths and Pedro Pires who will all share their knowledge and enthusiasm for astronomy.
  • We will be inaugurating the John Griffiths Natural Science Lab, in memory of Professor John Griffiths, celebrating John’s contribution to the Ringway Centre. John was an astronomer and curator of space collections at the Science Museum. He was chair of the Ringway Centre between 2000-2009, inspiring the designation as a Dark Sky Discovery Site.
  • Greg will lead a family talk about astronomy with some fun crafts to get involved in. We will then head out to see the planets and stars.
